On November 24th, Liu Zhenya, Chairman of GEIDCO, held in-depth talks with the visiting Vladimir Norov, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), on key issues of promoting Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) initiative and accelerating energy transition and power connectivity of the SCO member states, with many consensuses reached.
On November 10, Mr. Liu Zhenya, Chairman of GEIDCO and Chairman of China Electricity Council (CEC) attended the International Forum for Energy Transition 2020 and delivered a keynote speech.
On November 2, the 2020 Global Energy Interconnection (Asia) Conference was successfully convened in Beijing.
Recently, the first batch of GEIDCO regional and national committees were officially launched, including 4 regional committees (Africa, MENA, Europe, and Latin America) and 7 national committees (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Brazil, Mexico, Portugal).
GEIDCO releases Resolving the Crisis and Towards Sustainable Development
On August 20, GEIDCO held a GEI Cloud Seminar: Paths and Choices of Addressing Climate Change for Small Island Developing States. The event aimed at addressing climate change and facilitating low-carbon transition of small island states, based on their energy development characteristics and needs. Government officials and senior experts from Kiribati，Vanuatu and etc. participated in the discussions via video links.
On July 17, Liu Zhenya, Chairman of GEIDCO, and Angela Wilkinson, Secretary-General of World Energy Council (WEC) held a video conferencing, and exchanged views on topics such as how to deal with the pandemic’s impact on the energy sector, how to tackle the climate and environmental crisis, and promote clean and sustainable development, with many common understandings reached.
The policy brief --Building Global Energy Interconnection and Strengthening Interlinkages with the SDGs, submitted by GEIDCO this year, consists of five parts, including Key Concept, Energy Interconnections: Current Status, Benefits of GEI, Obstacles to Developing GEI and Policy Recommendations.
