On July 6 (local time), H.E. Alpha Condé, President of the Republic of Guinea met with Mr. Liu Zhenya, Chairman of GEIDCO, on the sideline of the AU Summit in Niamey, capital of Niger. The two sides have in-depth exchanges on the development of African Energy Interconnection and preparatory work for the African Energy Interconnection Sustainable Development Alliance (AEISDA), with important consensus reached. Both sides acknowledged that the AEISDA provides an important platform for promoting energy transition and sustainable development, and facilitating the implementation of major projects in Africa. GEIDCO and the Republic of Guinea will leverage their respective advantages and step up efforts to establish the Alliance, and call on more African countries and relevant international organizations to join the AEISDA, in a bid to pool together strength and wisdom to further boost the economic and social development in Africa for the benefit of African people.
During last year’s Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), GEIDCO and the government of the Republic of Guinea jointly proposed the establishment of the African Energy Interconnection Sustainable Development Alliance (AEISDA). It aims to establish a multilateral cooperation mechanism to jointly promote clean, industrialized, electrified development and regional integration, and achieve the goals set in the AU’s Agenda 2063 and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
