Professor Liu Zhenya is a renowned expert in energy and electric power technologies and a leader in areas of ultra-high-voltage power grid and global energy interconnection. Professor Liu Zhenya was born in China in August 1952. He currently holds the position of the Chairman of Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and Chairman of China Electricity Council (CEC), a consolidated organization of China’s power enterprises and institutions. He is also a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), international fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering and member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech). He has served as Chairman and President of State Grid Corporation of China for 12 years, inaugurated and organized research on ultra-high-voltage technologies, and led research and development on related equipment and engineering application in the whole process. In this period, he led SGCC to grow to the world’s largest utility, with a historic rise to the 2nd place on Fortune Global 500 ranking.

He actively promotes the establishment of global energy interconnection, which provides an effective solution to combating global challenges, such as climate change, environmental pollution and energy resource constraints, and has been brought into the framework of the 2030 sustainable development agenda of the United Nations.

He has received two China State Science and Technology Grand Awards. He is the author of many learned society publications, including several books of which Ultra-high Voltage AC & DC Grid and Global Energy Interconnection have been published in Chinese, English and Russian and received good reviews.
