Liu Zhenya Meets with the Delegation Led by Fan Liming, the President of Shandong University

On August 7, Liu Zhenya, Chairman of Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), Chairman of China Electricity Council (CEC), Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), met with the delegation led by Fan Liming, the President of Shandong University, at the headquarter of GEIDCO. Both sides reached important consensus on jointly promoting the development of GEI and strengthening discipline construction, talent cultivation, and research projects.

Liu Zhenya pointed out that energy is a fundamental issue concerning the sustainable development of mankind. Currently, the world faces a series of serious challenges such as resource shortages, environmental pollution, climate changes, and population without electricity. The root cause is excessiveconsumption and heavy dependence on fossil energy. The core of sustainable development is clean development. With the essence of "Smart Grid + UHV Grid + Clean Energy", GEI is an inevitable choice to achieve clean replacement and electric replacement, and to take the path of green, low-carbon, and sustainable development. Liu Zhenya introduced the progress and guiding principles ofGEIDCO’s workand organizational structure. He hoped that Shandong University would give full play to its advantages and strengthen cooperation with GEIDCO in deepening theoretical research, innovating and developing emerging disciplines, and accelerating talent cultivation to jointly develop GEI.

Fan Liming presented the progress and future development goals, development strategies and main tasks of Shandong Universitywithfocus on the cutting-edge directions and pooling high-end talents. Fan Liming said that the development of GEI required innovation in talent cultivation, and that Shandong University would promote the establishment of relevant disciplines and innovative cultivation models to provide firm support in strategies, technologies and talents centering on the development of GEI.

They agreed to bring into play their respective strengths, deepen cooperation in constructing innovative disciplines, holding meetings jointly, and developing research projects to accelerate the cultivation of versatile, high-level and international talents and promote the innovation and development of GEI together.
